• The role of the first aider including use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions
• The importance of hygiene, prevention of cross-infection
• Acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
• Dealing with a child or adult who is unconscious and/or in seizure
• Administration of prompt cardiopulmonary resuscitation – baby, child, adult
• Dealing with a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock
• Dealing with a casualty who is choking – baby, child, adult
• Provision of appropriate first aid for minor injuries
• Monitoring of children who need medication
• Treatment of children with injuries to bones
• Treatment of burns or scalds
• know what to do in the event of general illness in young children
