- The role of the first aider including use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions
- The importance of hygiene, prevention of cross-infection
- Acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- Dealing with a child or adult who is unconscious and/or in seizure
- Administration of prompt cardiopulmonary resuscitation – baby, child, adult
- Dealing with a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock
- Dealing with a casualty who is choking – baby, child, adult
- Provision of appropriate first aid for minor injuries
- Monitoring of children who need medication
- Treatment of children with injuries to bones
- Treatment of burns or scalds
- know what to do in the event of general illness in young children
