A person to be a qualified first aider in a low risk setting, or as an adjunct to fully qualified first aiders in a higher risk setting.
Content
To include:
- The role of the first aider including the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions
- The importance of hygiene in first aid procedures and the prevention of cross-infection
- Acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- Managing a casualty who is unconscious
- Dealing with a casualty who requires cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Treatment of major and minor bleeds, including clinical shock
- Management of seizures, choking, burns and scalds, asthma
- provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries
